James Room and Weird Antiqua
James Room is musician and singer-songwriter. Weird Antiqua is the style, the sound, the concept and the band that go with him.
It was at the end of 2012 when James Room came back to his native Bilbao and gathered the necessary musicians to form a band destined to sculpt, step by step, the appropriate sound.
Since then, along with his powerful voice and his guitar, we can see and listen to the guitars of Aitor Zorriketa “The Malamute”, the bass guitar and the double bass of Gabo Brown and the drums, percussions and chorus of Indigo L. Agudo, who create a quartet weather-beaten in hundreds of stages since metal to classical music.
Critique and audience have been unanimous regarding flattery since the album that materialises this adventure was edited, Weird Antiqua (Self-published, 2015).
In view of the warm response the album and their concerts got (in addition of an insatiable musical hunger) the band has recorded at Gaua studios in Mungia, with Jon Asier Zubelzu at the controls, their second and expected album, Honest Man Blues (Gaua Records, 2018). A collection of rock in its widest spectrum (blues, roots, grunge, desert, swing, singer-songwriter,…).
With his new album, faster, liver, and more electric than its predecessor, James Room & Weird Antiqua enter the Gaua Records family with a robust and compact sound result of recording live all the instrumental bases of every cut. In fact, the last song was recorded totally live in an empty auditorium of the Conservatory Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga.
The texts, which are of great importance in his music, go from the strictly personal into social matters. Sharp and forceful, and at the same time close and poetic.
We can also find great collaborators in Honest Man Blues. The harmonica player Pablo Almaraz provides his versatility in three of the cuts. And it was in Denver (Co, USA) where one of the metal section was recorded for other three cuts with the talent of José Leonardo León (trombone), Ryan Spencer (trumpet) and Ryan Van Scoyk (saxophone).
Mastered by Mario Alberni at Kadifornia studios, this Honest Man Blues is destined to widen (a lot) the horizons of James Room and his Weird Antiqua.
